Is it just me or has the horse meat in everything crisis driving everyone mad?
I can understand the issues but know for a fact that I have eaten horse meat before in France. They sell it in butchers in many places across Europe so why are we bemoaning that our frozen burgers, sauces etc contain it.
Is it the but I don't want to eat horse they're so cute theory? (Unlike cows, lambs, pigs, rabbits etc - all cute animals but reared to produce meat). Horses are like dogs, reputed to be our best friends and therefore not a farm animal but a pet, like rabbits but you would need Desperate Dan around to help you eat a Horse Pie.
Is it the if I wanted to eat it I could, but why hide it from us theory - well obviously with the growing price of beef, horse is cheaper! And with the struggle facing many families with the changes to benefits and the ever growing lack of pay rises to meet inflation then why shouldn't our food be cheaper. The supermarkets and their ever growing cheap alternatives to items we (as in the BNM household) would normally make our home, ie home made burgers instead of cheap supermarket variety packs, are possibly at blame but as I am aware many people struggle to pay their weekly food cost so why should they suffer.
Is it the lying and cheating theory that has us all rattled. It has been shown many times that although it is not unsafe for us to eat horse it is a taboo meat (in the UK) and therefore why should we eat it? Why should it be forced on us, hidden in our lasagnes (or used instead of beef)?
So what do you think of the whole thing?
