Bright Young Thing

I'm really not trying to blow my trumpet here ( lovely picture though!!) but I wanted to share with someone the great news we got last night.

Last night, like many parents up and down the country we went to Parent's Evening. The time that some parents dread but for us it was a pleasure.

Car is only in reception and apart from the issue of missing us that has started up recently where she is missing us but which is being dealt with all was well. We did ask that she start to be given reading books in school, especially as we've started the Reading Eggs programme which she loves (more on that some other time).

We then went across to Bel's classroom (year 4) and when we walked in we were faced with two teachers with beaming smiles. I knew that Bel was doing well in school but when you get the "Well, she did some tests and she's hitting 12+ marks ie talented and bright" then you know your doing well. Bel has been doing year 6 homework since the restart of school after the summer holidays and proudly uttered today that she could pick her reading books from Year 5 and 6 library now. I feel so proud and happy especially as she loves Maths - my own love at school.

It was also nice to hear that all the different ability ranges were being taught well in her school. Not only were SEN kids being taught at a slower rate but that the other talented and smart children were being taught more. Bel and two of her friends have extra classes - extra and harder comprehension, extra mathematics and are excelling well in all.

I love to support her learning at home so if you have any suggestions on websites we could visit to increase her knowledge and love of learning then please add them to the comment box. We are popping over to the in-laws over half term and am hoping that we can visit the Think Tank in Birmingham for some fun on one of the days.

BNM

(I hope that didn't sound too braggy - very proud mummy here!)
