Bonfire night treats - Princes Hot Dogs review

Firework Night courtesy of [Toa55] / FreeDigitalPhotos.net
With the night of Guy Fawkes upon us (tomorrow people) my thoughts turn to what we'll eat on the night. Now to me one thing you should eat is a hotdog and luckily for me we've been sent some from Princes:

I was very excited at trialling out different hot dog recipes but it seems that the kids and Neb do not like these kind!!

So, tonight I'm going to make a hot dog casserole (instead of normal hot dog in bun) to eat with my Fireworks. (although I still don't know whether the kids will eat this)

Hot Dog Casserole

Ingredients

1 tin of Princes 8 Hot Dogs
1 tin of tomatoes
1 onion - chopped
4-5 mushrooms - chopped
1 pepper chopped
1 courgette chopped
Herbs - pinch
Worcester sauce - dash

How to make it

Fry onions in a little oil until soft. Add courgettes, pepper and mushrooms.
When all soft add tomatoes. Simmer for 10-15 mins.
Remove hot dogs from tin, slice and fry for 1-2 mins. Add to tomato stew and serve with crusty roll or pasta
You could add some chick peas or red kidney beans to this recipe to bulk it up.

If your family does eat hot dogs then why not try these recipes from Princes

Hot dogs with caramelized onions

Ingredients

  • 1x 400g can of Princes Hot Dogs in brine
  • 6 large brown onions, thinly sliced into half moons
  • 1 large baguette
  • Oil for frying
  • Butter
  • Sauces and mustard

How to make it

1. Fry the onions in a little oil in a large frying pan on low heat for about 20 minutes or until they become coloured a pale gold and are completely soft. Remove from the heat and set aside.
2. Empty can contents into a pan and bring to the boil for 4-5 minutes.
3. Cut the baguette into lengths that fit the hot dogs and slice each one down the middle. Spread with butter and place the warm onions into the bread. Top with the hot dogs and your favourite condiments and sauces. (For a special treat why not add grated cheese and melt under the grill until gold and bubbling).

Some other topping ideas I've seen are:

1) Macaroni Cheese topped hot dog
2) Chilli Dog (Chilli topped hot dog which sounds delicious if you ask me)
3) German Hot Dog (dog topped with sauerkraut and mustard)
4) BBQ Dog - (dog topped with BBQ sauce)

However you eat your dog - have a safe and fun filled Bonfire Party

I was sent some Hot Dogs and an apron from Princes. All opinions given on hot dogs are mine (and not the rest of my family!)
