The taste of the past 1

You must have some songs that remind you of the past, songs that make you smile, songs that you have danced too, wedding songs, first kiss songs etc.
I have them too but there is also tastes. Last night, before going to bed (to warm me up) I had a drink that took me back to the 1993/4.

Imagine the scene, it was BK (before kids) and BH (before husband) and I'm still at school. I'm doing my A Levels at school, uniform all present and correct - well at least it was when I used to leave the house, by the time I got on the school bus, the tie would be the thin side on (!) and my skirt would have shortened by at least  2" (no not that Wonder web stuff but that skill known as hitching it up!).
So, I would get to school, go to registration and then go to either the 6th form common room or to the haven- the Biology prep room.
Yes, I studied a Biology A level (back in the days when I thought I'd be a dentist when I grew up!!) and as there were only four of us studying it we got to use the small prep room as an extra studying area. We had plenty of space to revise and do our homework and there we would drink it. The drink which would warm us up and which we would drink gallons of it.
The taste the other night made me smile, made me think of our mugs, of our time in the Biology prep room.

And the drink, well it wasn't tea or coffee but the fantastic taste of Horlicks, the taste that is now meant to help you sleep* used to keep us going through our study hours.

Is there a taste that takes you back? Having started this post, I seem to have remembered a few more, so soon I may bore you with them!!

BNM

Please note, this is not a sponsored post - I just love the stuff
 * - it may have made me sleep as I seemed to have failed my Biology A Level!!

  1. I can't think of a taste, not right away. The smell of coconut reminds me of Florida (yes, really!). I did biology too, not a thing wrong with it:) Jen

  3. I had a cup of Horlicks for the first time yesterday. It will be the last time. It is awful! I'm not sure that I can ever read your blog again now that I now you're a horlicks drinker!

For me Dandelion and Burdock takes me back. I don't like that either but my mum used to have it when I was a kid and I used to always try it.

  4. Buttercup syrup! Love the taste, love the smell and it takes me back to 2 places - home and my dad shovelling it down us whenever we had coughs (I blame him for my addiction) and also to the lovely old hotel that our tiny pocket rocket Miss CH lived in with her bedroom and study opposite, where she always had a bottle of buttercup syrup on the shelf, next to the vast array of herbal tea and I naways had a swig of her buttercup syrup!

  6. My mam used to drink Ovaltine before bed. Revolting stuff! As a child, the big treat drink was Tizer. It turned up at birthdays and Christmas. A few years ago, I thought I'd give it a go. Vile, absolutely vile.
But ginger beer ... that's another thing altogether. And I have passed the taste for it onto the next generation.
