Flips Interactive books - *REVIEW*

Thanks to lovely Tom at Shine communications one of the gifts that Bel got for Christmas was the Flips Interactive book.

The interactive book that she opened was the Enchanted Wood collection by Enid Blyton.

Game Info
The Enchanted Wood is one of Enid Blyton's most memorable and truly imaginative stories, capturing a world where almost anything can happen if you just believe in the magic of nature and its creatures.
Many adults will have fond memories of discovering the world of The Enchanted Wood, from the delightfully gentle Silky the Fairy, to the wonderfully bizarre but terminally jolly Moon-Face who along with a host of strange and mysterious characters live among the branches of The Magic Faraway Tree.
Enid Blyton’s classic Faraway Tree Stories collection on Nintendo DS and DSi includes 6 interactive books on one game card. 3 of her well loved titles; The Enchanted Wood; The Magic Faraway Tree and The Folk of the Faraway Tree and 3 new Enchanted World titles inspired by her characters and writing: Silky and the Rainbow Feather; Melody and the Enchanted Harp and Petal and the Eternal Bloom.

As a child (and now if she'd let me on it!) I loved the Enid Blyton books. Her stories I think are a must for every young girl with an imagination. From the Faraway Tree to The Famous Five, The Secret Seven to Mallory Towers I grew up with Blyton.
So, I was delighted when this arrived through my door and was looking forward to seeing what she made of it. One of the reasons that I had against the DS was that she would not read as much and would have her head stuck in it playing games all day long.
Well not with this, Bel is a good reader and has managed to read all the oxford stage that her year should be on in school and with this she had a chance to be in control of how much she read, she managed 50 pages on her first go (she only stopped when I asked her to come and have some food). And unlike the other games, where at the moment I have to help her with., she manages it all by herself. She enjoys reading it out loud to us and to Car (if she'd stay still!) She enjoys collecting the mushrooms and the noises/ effects that happen during certain part of the books.
I'm looking forward for her to be old enough to read the other Flips books and look forward to seeing more books in the collection - and maybe some adult ones too!!

So from BNM to you all this is a definate must get!

  1. Am not sure what age Bel is; or what the oxford stage thing is (can only assume she's reading at grade level or above?) - but I'm so glad to hear you've got a reader and that you encourage it. I've seen far too many young ones who don't care for reading. Mine has always loved to read and continues to read for pleasure to this day; in fact he's doing it now. It's great to see that technology is also re-inforcing reading!
